Larry Niven
My introduction into the world of hard science fiction.  I like Larry because of his strange settings and original aliens.  Nobody has created a more original and well thought out species like the Puppeteers.   My favorite Niven novels:

Ringworld
Ringworld Engineers
The Legacy of Heorot (with Jerry Pournelle & Steven Barnes)
Inferno (with Jerry Pournelle)
Footfall (with Jerry Pournelle)

James P. Hogan
I discovered Hogan through a Literature of Science Fiction class in college.  James is a true hard science writer and shares my view on how humanity uses science and technology as a scapegoat for their own stupidity.

Inherit the Stars
The Gentle Giants of Ganymede
Bug Park (this would make a great Spielberg movie!)
The Genesis Machine

Orson Scott Card
I love his character development and aliens in the Ender series.

Ender's Game
Speaker for the Dead
Xenocide
Children of the Mind

Robert L. Forward
Saturn Rukh (great creatures living in the skies of Saturn)

Anne McCaffrey
Love all of her Dragonriders of Pern books.  There's too many to list.

Micheal Crichton
Jurassic Park (despite Malcolm and his stupid views)

Jean M. Auel
Out side of my normal reading genre, and a little too much description, but her books and characters are engaging.

The Clan of the Cave Bear
Valley of Horses
The Mammoth Hunters
Plains of Passage (despite a brief romp into the absurd)
The Shelters of Stone (weak plot, but have to recomend it for the characterization)

J. K. Rowling
I'm a late comer into the Harry Potter craze, but glad I finally made it.

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

A. C. Crispin
Loved her entire Starbridge series.  Hope more are on the way.

Ben Bova
Moonrise
Moonwar

Alan Dean Foster
Quozl
Nor Crystal Tears

John J. Rust
John's work has a Tom Clancy feel, which adds an interesting dimension in his first novel, a superhero thriller.  He creates a unique fantasy environment with a strong foothold in the down and dirty real world.
